Lucky again. The cover fits very nicely over the coaming. Also about my idea of gasket. Gaskets deteriorate over time. By definition a cruising boat is meant to be away from ship yards often in a desolate location. There it is not easy to change a gasket. To glue a modern gaskets you need warm and dry conditions. You need a primer the a glue and good even pressure. This mostly means unscruving the hatch and sending it back to the manufacturer to hae the gasket replaced.
As you can see in this video there is an alternative way where you not even need tools except your fingers.
