The case for the tilting biplane rig.
Some people say that it is complicated to tilt a mast.
I say thats not so if the mast is small on a small boat and if it done in simple way.
A freestanding mast stands in a prismatic socket. However if one end of the socket is larger than the other the mast can tilt.
The tilt can be controller by a lashing.
To save energy let the boat do the work, do the lashing when the mast is in the lee.
It is not more difficult or complicated to make on end of the socket bigger than the other.
The only complexity is the lashing.
Every sailor knows, or should know how to do a lashing.
The tilting mast have the advantage of being able to get mor projected sail area and getting the weight of the mast to windward.
These effects are not large but when sailing, spending days after days in steady winds it is for me fun to tinker with the boat and make it perform better.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
