Small structures small problems. The mast are about 3.5 meter above deck and carry 3.5 square meter sail. Not more than an Optimist dingy. Exlex the canoe cruiser have much more stability and her intended route will take her into much windier waters. Still the forces are very small compared to big boats. That makes it possible to use simple solutions.
At deck leve there is a bearing and one more at the root of the mast. If availible and not to costly I will use Tufnol at the mast and glue it with NM-epoxy at the boat I will use POM or Delrin or acetal same thing different names.
The upper and lower bearing are joined by tube preventing water from enter the boat.
Water that enter the tube will be drained at hull side. This is easy as the mast are side by side close to the hull side.
