I am aiming for the Pacific. To me Panama and Suez are not attractive. Besides the authorities do not permit small boats.
I like open spaces therefore the polar routes north west and north east I will not use, besides its cold for a boat without heating.
In the south there is a eastern route south of Africa and Australia. That route was originally the planned one but time requaired would be for the about 14 000 miles from Madeira to Dunedin, 180 days at 75 miles a day. I did not like to stop in South America as that would add much distance. South Africa have much trafic and crime and Australia made it difficult to get a visa.
But the new boat have twice the sail area, better reefing and centerboard arrangement therefore the passage of 3 000 miles from Uruguay via Cap Horn deservs a try.
Normally It is I belive more than 1 % chanche of succes. However I will do my best and find good solutions thereby making the odds even better.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980. I have continued to design, build, and cruise small boats often in high latitudes. Please support me on my donation button on my site yrvind.com
