15 September 2022 More about the lid for deckhatches.
The lid is a bit more delicate because it have to mate with the gasket and there is a bit of estimating to do as the lid is a composite product with an inner and outer skin. Those join each other and form a lip that closes against the gasket. I will do mor...

12 September 2022 An other small step on the outside of the coaming. Not much.
I am now shaping the coamings. Working without a mould using sandwich construction means that each bit have to be shaped by hand. To get a goood result I chose to do it in several steps. There are commercial hatches for ocean goaing boats but they have sev...

11 September 2022. Laminating the inside of the hatch coamings.
Today I have been laminating the inside of the coamings. The surfaces have compund curvature. That takes longer time. The good thing is that I did not have to worry about leisure. See also: yrvind.com for much more about my boats, voyages and adventures. I...

10 September 2022. The bottom part of the inner coaming is now shaped ready to take the glassfibre.

9 September 2022. From octagon to hexadecagon by wedges.
Now I have glued 8 wedges on each hatch bringing the octagon to hexadecagon. This is on the inside. The outer side will rounded to approximate a circel. The main reason for the wedges is to make the thermal bridge longer. Condensation on a small boat with...

8 September 2022. Four more pieces on each deck hatch. Later an additional wedge completes the core.
One more step on the inner coaming is completed. A wedge in the inner corners of the inner coaming will shorten lengt of the cold bridges or themal bypasses created by the epoxy joints. That will reduce condensation when sailing in high latitudes. See also...

7 September 2022 First step on the deeck hatches.
Here is the first step on the deck hatches. To make easy I divide work in small steps. Also considering lithium batterys, they seam to involve a lot of more complicated electronics like regulators and one commentator wrote that I had to use a bus. Now I do...

6 September 2022. Reconsidering litium batteries. Will be cautius and get myself informed. + Bonus.
There have been many comments on the 5 September video on how absolutly safe the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) are. I am still sceptical. I had planned to get my batterys now but what I will do is to wait. Maybee I can do sea trials next year 2023. Duri...

5 September 2022 How to solve it The oar and the solar panels wants the same space.
In general, not only on boats there is a fight for the same place. Things interfere with each other. Here I solved it by making a grove below the solar panels for the oar. Its a good place for it much more better than on the previus boat. A bounus is that ...

4 September 2022. Mock up for the diameter of the round deck hatches.
Today I try out the diameter for the deck hatches. It is a balance. In port and in good weather and in warm clomates it is very desirable to have big deck openings. The intended cruising ground for my boat ranges from the equator to the high latitudes. I ...

2 September Anchoring the lower part of the port mast holder to the boat.
It is the ends of the mast holder thats doing the holding. The middle part is just their to orient the ends. It is the ends that have to be strong. Here I make the lower part strong with 3 extra 450 gram glas in NM-epoxy. See also: yrvind.com for much more...

31 August 2022 Making the bottom of the mast holders stronger.
This is just a small step. I am making the bottom of the mastholders stronger. The top strong point will be at deck level and will by its nature, having a very large diameter be very strong. Much stronger than the mast anywhay. See also: yrvind.com for muc...

29 August 2022. Why a longer boat makes less resistance than a shorter if displacement is the same.
Racing boats are prestigius thats why builders of production boats copy them. But racing boats are limited by rules and regulation especially concerning speed. In other words the speed of a racing boat is limeted by racing rules. Cruising boats are not rac...

28 August 2022 The second mast holder Fine Positioning them and making bulkhead 20 mm higher.
This method of wrapping the male mold in plastic film is excellent fast and quick release. If you want a shiny surface its not for you. If however you are a 60 grit man like me. Go for it. The second mast holder came out as easy as the first one. Now I am...

27 Aug 2022. The second mastholder is now laminated. Everything well.

26 August 2022 Laminating the first mastholder.
I was apprehensive about the laminating of the first mastholder. There was several ways of doing it. One idea was to have her horisontal and turn as I did laminate. Gravity would temporarily help. An other way was to have her standing vertical. Gravity wou...

25 August 2022 Warm wool socks and trying to fix a problem on the mold for the mast holder.
I did only roughen up the PVC close to the wood/ PVC joint. That was a mistake. The epoxy did not adhere well to the part of the PVC not sandpapered. The glassfibre liked to peel of. I may have saved it by wrapping the hole thing in glassfibre. Tomorrow we...
