Centerboards are wery good but since 1970 about racing rules penelise them.
If I remember so did Dick Carter win the 1969 Fastnet with the centerboard boat Red Roaster.
The English got so angry that when the IOR-rule in the 1970-s came centerboard boats was so heavily penelised that they went out of existence.
Good is that lately french cruising people have started to use them again.
A big problem with center boards is if the control the control line gets damaged. You have to put the boat on land to fix the problem. This was worrying Peter Duff and others. I have for a long time tried to think of a good solution. Here is is the control line is on deck. If it breaks just make a knot to the part of the centerboar that is abouve the deck. Takes no more than a moment. Also as a part of the centerboard is abouve the deck you can see its position.
Included is better pipe bending. I have used my file on the tool and got it to work smouthly.
