Sven Yrvind’s Kitchen Renovation: Enhancing Functionality and Efficiency in 2024
In the latest episode of his documentary series, marine pioneer Sven Yrvind provides an update on the recent improvements made to his kitchen. The focus of this renovation was on enhancing functionality and efficiency, as well as integrating innovative water storage solutions.
Lids and Cutting
Sven begins by discussing the installation of lids in his kitchen. These lids are then cut into pieces, allowing for a more space-efficient layout. He mentions that this new setup works fine and enables easy removal of items with just one hand.
Water Storage Capabilities
An important aspect of the renovation is the water storage capacity within the kitchen. Initially, it holds 11 liters of water. Sven plans to make a second bottom in this area, bringing the total water storage up to 18 liters.
Expansion and Organization
The expanded water storage capacity allows for better organization and space management. Sven shows how the kitchen can now hold nine 2-liter bottles, demonstrating the increased storage capability.
Design Features
In addition to the water storage, Sven mentions that there is plenty of space for storing sardines or other items in cans. The kitchen now holds 5.5 liters of water in two separate containers and an additional 9 liters in a different compartment.

Sven emphasizes that this new kitchen design works beautifully, noting its strength and ease of use. He also highlights the use of full screws on each side, securing the middle part with three screws for added stability.

Sven Yrvind
Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
