Today I try out the diameter for the deck hatches.
It is a balance.
In port and in good weather and in warm clomates it is very desirable to have big deck openings. The intended cruising ground for my boat ranges from the equator to the high latitudes.
I can not have both.
I have to decide.
Fine weather and in port is easy. Stormy weather in cold high latitudes is difficult.
I have decided on a small hatch.
I cold stormy weather I will have much protecting clothing therefore the test is with me clad for outside.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
