3 June 2024 Measuring the first bulkhead

Hello friends, this is Sven Yrvind, and today we’re diving into the fascinating world of boat building with another exciting episode of IR wind. In this video, we’ll be focusing on an essential aspect of our craft – measuring the first bulkhead.

Measuring the First Bulkhead

The first bulkhead we’re examining today is an intriguing one. Unlike a traditional, straight line, this particular bulkhead features a more complex shape, with the main curve measuring 11 mm deep at its center.

Moreover, the sides of this bulkhead are slightly protruding, extending outwards by 4 mm each. This is due to the two-dimensional nature of the bending process we’ve used for this part.

Exact Measurements

To give you a better understanding, from the back edge to the center of our bulkhead is approximately 1.7 meters – slightly longer than in the mold, but this discrepancy will not be an issue.

On the other hand, we’ve managed to maintain a more consistent measurement between the first and second bulkheads when compared to the original mold.

The Significance

So why is this measurement important? Well, precision in boat building is paramount for a smooth sailing experience. By carefully documenting these measurements and understanding the design choices made during our construction process, we ensure that every element of our boat contributes to its overall performance.

Conclusion

In this video, we’ve learned how the first bulkhead adds a unique and interesting aspect to our boat’s design. With these precise measurements in mind, we’re one step closer to realizing our vision of a perfect sailing experience.
