April 28, 2024 by Sven Yrvind | Language: EN Play Time: 00:02:35 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

On 29th April 2024, sailing legend Sven Yrvind embarked on the unique task of fitting an appendix to his yacht, offering insights into sailboat construction.
Sailing Legend’s DIY Sailboat Project
As we observe Sven Yrvind transform the Oceanic Philosopher, one can’t help but admire his hands-on approach. With a glue gun in hand, he initially attempted to secure components using adhesive, though he soon realized that epoxy would provide a stronger bond.
Hull Appendices and Their Purpose
The hull appendages are situated around the yacht, providing both aesthetic appeal and functional enhancement. Interestingly, there are two of them, designed to prevent water from flowing beneath the boat. The design choice was motivated by the high Prismatic Coent of 67 as opposed to the standard 54, which contributes to improved performance.
Square Section Advantages
By incorporating a square section, the yacht benefits from increased lateral resistance. This enables it to maintain stability while sailing in varied conditions.
Rudder and Mast Placement Strategy
The strategic placement of the rudder axis at the yacht’s stern not only provides stability but also determines the location of other essential elements such as the mast. This ingenious approach ensures harmony throughout the vessel.
Sven Yrvind’s Expertise on Display
This fascinating project demonstrates Sven Yrvind’s profound understanding of sailboat construction. Through detailed explanations, he illuminates the reasoning behind design choices that enhance functionality and performance.
