24 September 2022 Making a friction holder for the gasket. No glue.
The gasket is kept in place with friction. No glue. This makes it very easy to replace it even at sea. It only takes a few minutes.
Elastic weather resistant materials for gaskets such as EPDM are very difficult to glue. Many times the whole hatch is sent back to the factory to have the job done. That takes time and do cost money.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
