Hello friends, this is Sven Yrvind, and today I’ll give you a tour of my latest boat design. We’re aiming to have everything done by June 2024.

Overview

The boat is currently in its mockup stage. I plan to build a sailing mockup and extensively test it. This design features two main mast positions – one at the front of the deckhouse and another towards the rear, near the cockpit area.

Mast Holder

The forward mast holder is strong enough to hold up three supports on one side and six supports on the other. This structure has been designed using high-quality plywood materials, giving it excellent stability.

Boat Specifications

The length of this sailing boat is 5.7 meters, with a width of 1.9 meters. When standing on the deck, one can reach up to the top of the mast easily. The sail area of approximately 56 square meters is very efficient compared to other boats on the market.

Advantages

Our design allows for 45% more efficiency in downwind sailing compared to other similar-sized boats. This is crucial for long-distance sailing adventures, where the focus is on maintaining speed without constantly adjusting the sails.

The Deck

The deck of our boat provides plenty of storage space for gear and other essentials. We’ve integrated 40 lockers strategically around the vessel to maximize space.

Ventilation System

The ventilation system we’ve designed for this boat will ensure the living area remains dry even in heavy winds or wet conditions. Air is drawn in near the water line at the bottom of the vessel, circulated across the entire cabin space and exits through a central hatch.

Hatches

A major improvement over past designs is the new locking mechanism of our hatches. They can now be easily opened or closed with just one hand and provide a secure seal against water ingress.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
