Fairleads causes chafe. Chafe destroys ropes. In a storn the surge keeps chafing the ropes for sometimes day after day.
The problem is that boat builders separate the fairlead from the cleat or bitts.
It is much better to put the cleat or bitt at the rail or gunwale and have no fairlead then there be no chafe.
This is how I do it and it is also cheaper and lighter.
I will ask the founder when he comes to make two one for the bow and one for the aft.
This is part of anchoring system. I will have two or more drums of rope. There will be three posts on the bitts I can then use them as two fairleads when handling the anchors. Friction hitches type rolling hitch will faciliate changing anchor rodes.
To reduce chafe even more I will use back turns to secure the anchor rode.
