20 April 2024 Offset and tilted daggerboard replaces centerboard
Hello friends, this is BKA the ice sailor, who also plays paddle tennis, I don’t know what it’s called in English, but here we have the centerboard of a boat, and for the next boat, it’s going to be different.
Design Changes from Centerboard to Daggerboard
On the new boat, the centerboard will be replaced with a daggerboard that has several key changes. The M in the centerboard frame (marking its position) will now be moved forward and positioned offset to one side. This creates additional space for hatches.
Advantages of Offset Daggerboard Design
The primary benefits include improved sail control, enhanced center of gravity, and additional storage spaces.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
