Sven Yrvind Installs Custom-Made Bottom Plate on Sailing Yacht

In the latest episode, sailing enthusiast and renowned yacht builder Sven Yrvind takes us through the process of installing a custom-made bottom plate on his sailing yacht. This is an essential step in enhancing the strength and security of the vessel.

Lifting and Positioning the Bottom Plate

Sven begins by securing the bottom plate into position, leveraging assistance from a helpful individual. He expresses satisfaction with how well the plate conforms to the yacht’s structure without any undue force. Initially considering 9mm or 12mm thickness, Sven opts for 12mm for added strength and finds the installation process surprisingly easy.

Fastening the Bottom Plate

With the bottom plate securely in place, Sven proceeds to drill holes at specified intervals and employs spacers for optimal alignment. He then applies epoxy around the entire perimeter of the plate before repositioning any weights that may have been temporarily removed during installation.

Securing Corners and Final Touches

The next phase involves ensuring smooth, precise corner placement and securing the bottom plate with screws. Sven carefully applies tape on both the exterior and interior surfaces before proceeding to cover the entire assembly in glass fiber. Upon completion of this intricate process, the yacht boasts a reinforced and resilient foundation.

Outcome and Future Plans

Upon completion, Sven’s sailing yacht proudly exhibits a robust new bottom plate that promises to significantly extend its operational lifespan. As for future endeavors, it remains to be seen which projects or adventures will occupy this intrepid sailor next. Meanwhile, admirers and enthusiasts alike can continue to look forward to further captivating installments from Sven Yrvind.
