Slow Progress on Iconic DIY Sailboat Build [17th July 2024]

Sven Yrvind returns with a fascinating episode in his ongoing sailboat building journey. Here, he talks through the meticulous process of fitting out his unique yacht project.

After creating the hull, Sven is now working on securing important storage solutions underneath the bed area. With precision and care, each component is carefully designed to fit perfectly.

Strategic Storage Solutions

As he shows us, Yrvind places a clamp system under the bed for organizing the vessel’s storage efficiently. It’s essential for such a project because it allows space for essential gear and supplies while maintaining balance in the boat.

Tightening and Securing

He secures these new components using a clamp lead, ensuring nothing will shift during fitting stages ahead. This method provides a sturdy foundation for future enhancements on the sailboat.

Seating Improvements

In the dining area, Yrvind applies epoxy below the seats to reinforce and protect them from water damage. Once cured, glass fiber is added on top for additional strength and durability.

The Importance of Epoxy and Glass Fiber

Epoxy resin and glass fiber play critical roles in this construction. They provide a robust material base that can withstand the test of time, crucial for long-distance voyages.
