To be one step ahead I already do the mock up for the beckhatches. Inspired by the bulkhead hatches I now intend to do also them circular.
Openings on previus deck hatches have been 45 X 40 cm starting with the first Bris I started to build Midsummer 1971. Also the last two Exlex had deck hatches 45 X 40 cm.
I have found that a good size. The area is 0.18 square meter.
The area of the planned circular hatch is 0.166 or 7.7 % smaller. She has a diameter of 46 cm a bit longer and wider.
A very important change is that the lip of the hatch is to be outside a insulated Divinycell coaming.
Last Exlex made a high latitude passage being as far north as Iceland. It was very cold and damp. I did not see the sun for one and a half moths except short glimpses.
There was condensation constantly dripping causing mildew. All that can be changed thanks to an inner insulated coaming.
I learnt an important lesson that is going to make the rest of my life much more easy.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
