[Ep 28] Cruising Baja’s Wild Side | Whales, Reefs & Life at Anchor in Los Frailes

After leaving Cabo San Lucas, we set our course for Los Frailes, a quiet anchorage that feels like a world away from the chaos of Cabo. Along the way, we try our luck fishing, but once we arrive, we discover why this spot is so special.
The name Los Frailes means “The Friars”, inspired by the dramatic rock formations that rise above the bay like hooded monks. Just north of here lies Cabo Pulmo National Park, home to the oldest coral reef in the eastern Pacific, over 20,000 years old. Once nearly destroyed by overfishing, Cabo Pulmo is now one of the greatest conservation success stories in Mexico, bringing life back to the Sea of Cortez with sea turtles, rays, and even sharks.
We spend our days hiking the desert trails, snorkeling in the turquoise water, and enjoying the quiet beauty of the anchorage. Winter in Baja also means whale season, and we’re lucky enough to see humpbacks surfacing right in our anchorage.

And of course, we couldn’t have asked for a more unique place to celebrate New Year’s Eve at anchor.
