It’s moments like these that make all the swearing, boat jobs, and stressful sails worth it.

All the mayhem of last week’s wild sail was worth it to arrive at this uninhabited coral-fringed island in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. Yes, it is still pouring with rain, cloudy and very windy, but we must embrace it, so we’ve put on our multipurpose snorkels and goggles, and we battle the elements to explore this island we have to ourselves. We are surprised to wake to light winds and there is no time to waste. We jump straight into action and go for that longed-for spearfish. The boys collect themselves three coral trout, and it would be rude not to have a fire on the beach in between rain squalls to cook them up for dinner. There are still no signs of the weather easing, so we must press on further up the cape in the wet and wind. We are in for another quick sail.
