Sailing out and away from land in search of the Great Barrier Reef has been playing on our minds for weeks as we have island-hopped around the Whitsundays waiting for the right weather window.

This week as chance would have it, we have all washed up on the same beach. After losing our fellow sailing mates somewhere along the way, the crews finally back together again. We dive the reef, climb the mountains and hang on each other’s boats all before waking at an ungodly hour to take advantage of a weather window to head out to the outer reef. It feels good to gain some distance from land but our decisions become a little unstuck when the tide and sun work against us…we have to come up with a plan B…
