First test sail of my newly acquired Cape Dory 28
January 16, 2020 by Sam Holmes Sailing | Language: EN Play Time: 00:05:56 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

I set out on my first test sail. After fiddling around with the engine we soon get underway. The wind was around 15kts but eventually died down to 4-8kts. The sails went up easily and got us moving right along. I also tested the tiller pilot and chartplotter that came with the boat. I think those will come in handy. My first impressions of the boat are very good. The motion feels a little more dampend than my Ranger 23 but the tiller steering still provided a nice connection to the water and a responsive feel. We sailed around for a few hours and had some drinks and snacks before heading back in. It was a pleasant surprise that everything went so smoothly. I was expecting a lot more stuff to go wrong or break. I’m looking forward to getting this boat out in some stronger conditions to see what she can really do.
