So pleased you could join us on another “adventure” as we sail up the west coast of Oz.
Our start was a bit rocky, bad choice of words perhaps, but our transducer was not showing our depth. We had a small moment of joy when we thought we’d fixed it but alias it switched off and intermittently flashed depth, but we didn’t have faith in the accuracy. We’re a full bottle on transducers now, little did we know that we had an in-hull transducer installed which requires distilled water to run accurately, so if we’d just poured a little water into the container, we wouldn’t have had an issue.
We got to Lancelin through massive swells and washing machine type waves, we armed ourselves with our personal floatation devices and held on, freezing. We were pleased to welcome the warm arms of Lancelin where we enjoyed a delightful calm night. Wedge Island was another lovely stop, the sail was uneventful, and we enjoyed another peaceful night.
On day three we set sail to Cervantes but thought we’d have a sneaky overnighter at Green Islands and as we approached, we were excited to see that it looked exactly like the tranquil and tropical islands we’d envisioned. Mitcho threw the crayfish pot overboard to get it primed for filling, we were slowly motoring around to find a good patch of sand to anchor in when suddenly the boat came to an almighty stop, a massive jolt was felt throughout (I was in the galley), and we knew straight away what had happened. We didn’t know, however the extend of the damage.
Mitcho donned his wetsuit to investigate with the GoPro and thank goodness the footage was not clear. It made the 40nm sail to Jurien Bay a little less stressful but still left us both with a deep dread in the pit of our stomach.
After we’d determined that the keel had significant damage to it, I went ahead and investigated the interior of the vessel. I noticed a there was a small amount of water on the galley floor, but I thought it had come from the bin which had fallen over. I checked it again 10mins later and it’d grown bigger and was significantly more wet. After I alerted Mitcho to this, he came and secured the floor plug which was seeping water. This led me to check on the galley floor intermittently throughout the sail to Jurien Bay and noticed whilst it wasn’t gushing out, it was continuing to seep out of the floor. Argh! No one wants to discover water coming into a vessel!
Anyway, we made it to Jurien Bay, Thank Goodness and was so thankful to be taking her out of the water to get fixed. Humble apologies for my choice of clothing on the scooter tour, I mean I figured if we can wear double denim why can't we wear double maroon :-) and besides I had packed for warm weather so didn't have many warm jackets.
Join us next week as we take you on a tour of Jurien Bay and set sail to more adventures ahead.
