Salt & Tar: Ep.313- The Key to All Our Problems
Part 2/Day 2 of starting the engine after 9 months. First we weren’t sure if we had salt water intrusion but then after cleaning and pulling some parts it appears to be contained 👍 we moved onto a problem that was brought to our attention right before we left (in November) the engine stopped pumping raw water. So looking into that we discovered the impeller shaft key had corroded. My amazingly sexy husband had the bright idea to whittle one out of a bronze wood screw we had laying around since we are too remote to be able to just go buy one/find one here in Baja Mexico 😉
We have been away from sailing Rediviva since June 2024 when Garrett’s Dad got sick. We have been stateside helping him and now that he is more stable we are getting back to our boatlife and posting again 💕

Hello World Salt & Tar is a husband and wife duo determined to build a 35 foot custom George Buehler designed wooden gaff ketch sailboat; documenting their undertaking. Now, 5 years into the project, Garrett and Ruth have transported the boat to the San Francisco Bay Area. It began up a hill in Washington state. Equipped only with a 5000W generator, a few power tools, and resolution Rediviva has grown from a stack of lumber to a boat.
