Salt & Tar: Ep.296- Reef Relief

Embark on an unforgettable sailing adventure with Salt & Tar as they explore Bahía de los Ángeles in Mexico.

Reef Relief and Pristine Islands

In this captivating episode, Salt & Tar find sanctuary at Aguada Verde. Despite the area’s reputation for shallow water caused by a nearby reef extending into the bay, they are relieved to find safe anchorage in a sheltered spot. Their paddleboard explorations reveal crystal-clear waters and a distinct line reaching far out, seemingly demarcating a shallow sandbar.

The Search for Shallow Waters

Using their depth finder to navigate the area safely, they note that depths drop from 200 feet to 35 feet as they venture closer to the island. While the waters near the reef are shallower than expected, it’s evident that this haven is a treasure trove of beauty and wonder.

Anchorage and Exploration

While at anchor near Ethan’s favorite spot on the island, they enjoy fresh CAU grouper caught by their host. The Westerly winds provide a perfect respite from the bustling mainland, offering a calm night that promises relaxation and enjoyment.

The Perfect Catch

Dining on delicious fresh grouper prepared by Captain Garrett, Salt & Tar share stories of their journey with newfound friends Cynthia and Ethan. They reminisce about their adventures through Panama’s forgotten waters, trading tips on hidden gems along the way.

A Journey Worth Remembering

This incredible sailing adventure showcases not only the pristine beauty of Bahía de los Ángeles but also highlights the warmth and hospitality extended to travelers seeking refuge in these breathtaking waters. As Salt & Tar prepare for their onward journey, they are filled with gratitude for the memories made along the way.

A little bit of everything cruising in this one! This is our second time in Agua Verde but first time to Isla Monserrat. The Sea of Cortez/The Gulf of California has treated us well this time around. We're loving the water while it's still refreshing after baking in the sun. The goldilocks zone, when the water is not too cold and not too hot👌
