Salt & Tar: Ep.111- How We Protect Our Hardware

Mild steel hardware has been used on boats for centuries. Most of our hardware, fittings, and fasteners are steel. Some are galvanized, like our fasteners, and others we protect in a couple step process. One of the things we like most about working with steel is you can do most things yourself and it speaks to you when it needs attention. Just as we have to keep an eye on our wood and add more boat soup time and again we’ll also have to watch our steel and maintain the paint. There’s no such thing as a zero maintenance boat and if you’re a traditional wooden boat you know they’re high maintenance and you better find joy in the work. We can’t tell you how many people pass by and holler “that’s a labor of love….”

Thanks for joining us this week! Hope you enjoy the episode.
