Episode 236 Recap: Ocean Bounty – Sustaining Off Our Catch in the Bahamas with Brother Marcus
Over the past week, my brother, Marcus, joined me on board Zepha. We have been exploring the Abacos as part of his final bucket list trip to the Bahamas. Two big items were on his list – see the famous swimming pigs of the Bahamas and catch some fish with us.Our sailing companions, Flint and Kira, are two playful WMarine puppies who have become part of our global adventure around the world. Our journey takes us to No Name Cay, where we meet the swimming pigs and learn about their origin.Preparation of Lobster TailsFollowing a day of spearfishing, we fillet the lobster tails. First things first, you need to remove the poop vein from inside each tail. Using part of the antenna, I carefully push it down into the hole and twist as I pull out the black vein. This way, only the pure meat is left! The Famous Swimming Pigs at No Name CayWe anchor up and travel by dinghy to visit the swimming pigs. They’re a major draw for tourists and we are no exception. It’s amazing how clean they are – much better than other pig beaches we’ve seen before.Next Stop – Treasure KeyWith our stomachs filled with lobster, we sail to the infamous Whale Cut, which has a notorious reputation. We manage it easily in the calm sea conditions and anchor up at Treasure Key.James spots something in the water – another catch of fish! It’s a favorite type for us – mackerel. James fillets the fish quickly and skillfully, producing beautiful fillets from half a fish.Fuel Issue With EngineOver the weeks, we have experienced hesitations in our engine similar to past issues while traveling. We suspect the fuel sender – the pipe that sucks fuel out of the tank can get clogged over time. So I set about cleaning and clearing this area, scrapping away years of accumulated debris from sailing all around the world with different types of diesel fuel, resulting in different levels of contamination. The difference after clearing it out is clear to see.Key Islands & DepartureOver the next couple of days, we visited other key islands like Hopetown and Man-O-War. Time slips by too quickly as we enjoy the last few days with my brother. We sail back to Marsh Harbor in blustery conditions for his departure.ReflectionsThese past weeks have been full of fun and laughter. The extra company added to the adventure, making our trip around the world even more special. Until next time, thank you for joining us.Don’t forget to like this video, subscribe and support the journey via the links provided. Until we sail again!Join us on our thrilling journey through the stunning Abacos as we sail towards the famous swimming pigs at No Name Cay! With my brother along for the ride, we delve into remote islands, snagging lots of lobster and even scoring a mackerel for dinner while trawling our line. Watch as James and my brother demonstrate lobster preparation and fish filleting, plus James tackles fuel tank maintenance. Don't miss out on a week's worth of action-packed exploration! Sadly, it's time for my brother Marcus to bid farewell, but the memories and good times remain. Subscribe for more adventures and share your thoughts in the comments below!

Salt water and electronics rarely mix and the ocean is not friendly with our gear. Things are constantly breaking or rusting apart. These are a few of the things we hope to get to keep bringing Sailing Zephyr to you.
