In this episode, Sailing Zatara is in for quite the heart transplant as they remove their old engines and drop in two stunning new Yanmar 110s.
The process began with Just Catamarans making all the necessary modifications to fit these gorgeous engines perfectly. They also installed all new pieces, parts, accessories, fuel lines, coolant, oil, props and more to get the Zatara boat running smoothly. And while in Florida for this major surgery, Sailing Zatara managed to upgrade their kitchen to a gourmet stainless steel affair and acquire a new Highfield dinghy as well.
Sailing Zatara host, Zach, discusses the difference between a boat owner’s expectations when starting a boatyard project and what really goes on behind the scenes. The process can often take longer than expected due to unexpected challenges such as cutting open decks, working with custom parts, finding good help, and dealing with delays.
Just Catamarans took care of the Yanmar engine installation meticulously. This included: pluming in the fuel lines, filling with oil and coolant, tidying everything up and finally firing up the new engines for a sea trial. The results? Quieter than expected operation thanks to stainless steel knix tools used throughout.
Zach and Keith took the boat out for a sea trial to ensure everything was working properly. Though there were some minor glitches such as not plugged in dock mate, anchor switch, RPM gauges from previous engines unplugged, and a vent issue with fuel lines – overall, the new Yanmar 110s performed excellently.
The sea trial came after Sailing Zatara made many other updates, got their flights booked to meet Anna in Dallas for her graduation, took out the new dinghy for a spin, got their rations ready, and prepared to head south towards Grenada. They planned to be in Florida for another 3 weeks wrapping up projects before departure.
The transformation of Sailing Zatara’s boat is significant. From a heart transplant with Yanmar 110 engines to kitchen upgrades and new dinghy acquisition – the owners are set for their upcoming Caribbean adventure. Managing client expectations, especially during boatyard projects, requires integrity from the management team as highlighted in this episode.
Keep up with Sailing Zatara as they sail through various challenges and experiences to enjoy living aboard a sailboat while parenting their three kids.
