Finally back on the water and THIS IS WHAT WE GET?!! (Ep 288)
Sailing to the Bahamas with New Engines | Facing Boat Issues and Excitement
After being docked in Fort Lauderdale for the past couple of months, it’s finally time to bid farewell to Just Catamarans and take our shiny new Yanmar engines out to sea. Sadly, we also had to say goodbye to Jack and Kate last week as they embarked on a six-month whale of an adventure in Tonga. Now we’re setting off with Finn, who’s almost 18, along with his friend Luke and Luke’s girlfriend Emily. Our destination is Grenada, which we hope to reach in the next 2 to 3 weeks. From there, we’ll fly back to the US once again to help Finn get settled so he can embark on his van life adventure in his newly purchased van. Boat Preparations and Issues As we prepare to leave, the first problem comes off one of the props that we put on them in Fort Lauderdale. I got to go to 30 degrees of pitch, so I pulled off a one-piece. Wouldn’t want to have done this in murky water. In just under an hour, the storms pass and the sun shines through as we’re almost there at West Caicos. We stop here for the next 24 hours because we got to wait for some weather to pass us by and then we can sail all the way to Puerto Rico. The Dinghy We had a few hiccups with our new Highfield dinghy, but now it seems we finally got it right as it’s running beautifully. Emotions and Excitement of the Journey Even though there are some challenges and boat issues, everyone is in good spirits. Luke and Emily share night shifts with Keith while Finn keeps watch during the day. The whole family enjoys sailing together while their children experience new adventures such as swimming with pigs at Pig Beach, Turks and Caicos, and enjoying the beautiful sunset at West Caicos. Conclusion Though it may be a little challenging being away from their children, the family enjoys this adventure together and embraces each moment along the way.
