This wasn’t a storm… but it might have been one of the most uncomfortable passages we’ve had.
Sailing from Seychelles to Tanzania, we thought we’d timed the weather well. A lighter forecast, a manageable window… and a straightforward run across the Indian Ocean.
But out here, it’s not always the wind that defines a passage.
Short period swell, confused seas, and constant motion turned this into a relentless few days onboard. The kind of passage that doesn’t look dramatic… but slowly wears you down, hour by hour.
From hobby horsing over waves to being thrown sideways, reefing down to stay in control, and troubleshooting ongoing boat issues along the way — this is what offshore sailing really looks like.
No filters. No shortcuts. Just real life at sea.
After days of discomfort, we make landfall in Tanga, Tanzania, marking the start of a whole new chapter for our family — exploring mainland Africa.
