After a tough offshore passage, we arrive in Tanzania for our first real taste of Africa… and it wasn’t quite what we expected.
Our journey begins in Tanga, a quiet coastal town where we reset after days at sea, navigate the full boat check-in process, and explore the incredible Amboni Caves — the largest limestone cave system in East Africa.
From there, we sail south to Zanzibar, where everything shifts.
More people, more movement… and a completely different energy. From busy beaches and traditional dhow boats to the contrast between tourism and local life, this stop gave us a glimpse into a side of Africa that’s hard to put into words.
Along the way, we share the realities of arriving in a new country by boat, a bit of sailing tradition, and the moments in between that make this lifestyle so unique.
This is what our first days in Africa really looked like.
