Mast Down. Hauled Out. And More Diesel.

For the first time since I bought the boat, Phoenix do Mar is hauled out. Time to upgrade systems and prepare her for the Southern Ocean.

In September 2026 I will begin a 30,000 mile solo nonstop circumnavigation of the planet aboard my 1998 Pacific Seacraft 40, "Phoenix do Mar", meaning Phoenix of the Sea in Portuguese. Departing from Port Townsend, Washington, this voyage will cross the world’s most remote oceans in one continuous passage and take up to eight months to complete. Follow along as I prepare for departure and attempt one of the greatest challenges in sailing.

The boat finally goes back in the water after months of being on the hard. I also talk about why I haven't been uploading content recently and where things stand as I get closer to finishing the refit. We’re getting there. Slowly but surely. And huge th...

I Answered 50 of Your Questions

Installed nothing. Fixed nothing. Just sat down and answered your questions as honestly as possible. In September 2026 I will begin a 30,000 mile solo nonstop circumnavigation of the planet aboard my 1998 Pacific Seacraft 40, "Phoenix do Mar", meaning Pho...

Installing A High Output Alternator ⚡️

I’ve rewired the boat, installed a new alternator, and made about 100 questionable decisions during the refit. If the engine starts and the boat floats… it will be a miracle. In September 2026 I will begin a 30,000 mile solo nonstop circumnavigation o...

Got a New Fuel Tank and Almost Killed My Van

Installed a brand new secondary fuel tank to increase my diesel capacity for the nonstop circumnavigation. It felt like a big step forward, until I realised I’d been driving my van with no oil for a week. Bone dry. Turns out I can only manage one machine...

Phoenix Do Mar Is Born

They say renaming a boat is bad luck… I did it anyway. Turns out the real danger was hiding inside the rudder. In September 2026 I will begin a 30,000 mile solo nonstop circumnavigation of the planet aboard my 1998 Pacific Seacraft 40, "Phoenix do Mar",...
