During this Zoom Workshop James will explain the basics of anchoring covering scope, ground tackle, reading the landscape, what to do during a storm and more. This will be a live Zoom class with power point slides with brief Q&A during the class and an open floor discussion at the end of the workshop.

James Frederick has more than 15k nautical miles of passage making behind him and has anchored in more than 130 anchorages around the world. From Shore tying in the Marlborough Sounds to bows to the rocks in the Åland islands of Finland. Floating his chain over coral bommies in the Tuamotus to anchoring bow stern in Southern California more times than he can count. He has anchored with 2ft of water under my keel in a river in Opua, NZ and dropped the hook in 70ft at Catalina Island near Los Angeles, from fair weather to cyclones.

This workshop will have something to learn for most mariners and will be especially useful for new sailors or sailors who have not yet ventured outside of their local cruising grounds but plan to sail off into the sunset.

1.     Understanding Scope
2.     Best Ground Tackle for Your Boat
3.     Picking a Spot & Anchor Watch
4.     Dragging anchor; How to Handle It
5.     Overview on Specialty anchoring; Bow Stern / Floating Chain / Shore tying
6.     General Discussion

If the class is a success I will hold these workshops about once a month covering subjects such as How to Go Cruising, Route Planning and Foreign Ports, Specialty Anchoring, Passage Making and more.
