Ep28 To Sesimbra

It this episode we continue racing down the coast of Portugal. With the sun shining and the sea behaving itself, we make good time to Sesimbra. The only downside is that we had to use the engine the whole way there.
Once anchored we inflate Rhumi. Just before I go to launch her, I start to add a new rope to put on the front of her, as I go down below to get the rope and knife. This is when I heard Claire (who at the time was hanging washing up on the back of the boat) fall with a thump onto the deck followed by an almighty splash as she hit the water. A boat had gone by very close which caused a bit of swell, resulting in Claire falling over and drop the washing in the sea, she swam on to save the washing.
When I got on deck she was swimming to the side of the boat cursing. I helped her out and then carried on my job of replacing the rope on the front of Rhumi. Knife in one hand and old rope in the other I started to cut when another boat or the same boat came past again, too close and too fast. The motion of Rhumor made me rock back and forward, just as I cut threw the rope plunging the knife into the front of Rhumi, with my curses muffled by the sound of rushing air from Rhumi’s gaping wound. We prepped the wound and glued a plaster patch over the hole, which seemed to hold ok but time will tell how long for.
With another day of travel under our belts, its an early night ready for a early start in the morning to Sines.
Join us next time as we carry on running down the Portuguese coast.
Thanks for watching from the crew of Rhumor.
