Welcome back to another thrilling episode of Sailing Parlay Revival! In this latest installment, our brave crew set off to one of the most picturesque locations on Earth – Milford Sound in New Zealand.
Apart from Doubtful Sound, no one lives in these sounds; it gives you an overwhelming sense of isolation. Despite the rain, this place is breathtaking. The scenery here was absolutely stunning, and there was snow on the tops of mountains. The amount of crayfish that comes out of this place is just phenomenal.
After reaching Milford Sound, we found a beautiful Skipper’s house with a great crew area outside. To make the stay even more memorable, Craig treated us to a delicious feast that night. The next morning, we were greeted by one of the most picturesque backdrops I have ever seen.
The beauty and isolation here will be etched in our memories for life. This type of cruising experience, combined with freezing temperatures and ice-cold water flowing down from waterfalls, is definitely not something you’d want to endure year-round; however, it’s a priceless experience we’ll never forget.
After enjoying the wonders of Milford Sound, we had to continue our journey. With an exciting forecast ahead of us, we knew we couldn’t stay too long. However, with Taylor and Sienna leaving for other commitments, it was time for the crew of just four (Jamie, Katie, Slim Shady, and myself) to take on new challenges.
We set off for Nelson, knowing that the journey ahead would be a significant one. We faced challenging conditions along the way but kept pushing forward. One day, as we sailed from Milford Sound to Nelson, the winds picked up significantly; it was an extremely uncomfortable night. However, through determination and teamwork, we pushed through these tough times together.
In the next episode, find out how our fearless crew tackles the rough waters, making life-changing decisions about their route. Can they maintain a 6.2 knot average for the next three days? Watch as they make their way towards Cape Ranga and take on new challenges that lie ahead!
“This place gets better and better. The sun’s coming up, waterfalls are flowing, and now we’ve got dolphins in Milford Sound.” – Unknown

In this episode we continue cruising around Fiordland in New Zealand, which fast became our favourite place we had ever taken the boat. We literally drive the boat under a waterfall, but eventually have to set sail north towards Nelson, to try complete our circumnavigation of the country!
SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!!
