BOAT CAPTAIN FRUSTRATED BY FACEBOOK TROLLS! – (Episode 260)

Welcome back sailors, boaters and adventurers!

In this episode of Parlay Revival, we are continuing our circumnavigation journey around New Zealand, and unfortunately faced a major setback on the water. The starboard bow of our boat ripped off entirely, while in the middle of our journey.

Boat Damage Update

While on our way to Great Barrier Island, we had to make a pit-stop at Smokehouse Bay. It was during this leg of the journey that the starboard bow of our boat ripped off entirely, with just the remnants hanging by a thread. The same situation was looking increasingly likely to occur on the port side as well.

Facebook Trolls Interference

In an attempt to warn other boaters of this potential issue and provide advice, we posted on Facebook about the damage and repairs underway. The Lagoon Owners Group was unfortunately filled with negative comments from a few trolls who assumed it must have been caused by hurricane conditions.

We cannot argue against their statement when seeing this. The connection between the deck and hull is poor, with signs of old repairs used previously on our boat. As someone with experience navigating around different regions, these trolling remarks made us rethink our efforts to help.

Rally Around New Zealand

We came across a helpful source called the Rally Around New Zealand. Managed by Vicki Moore, this organization provides assistance to those undertaking such an incredible journey around New Zealand. They offer WhatsApp groups where sailors can communicate and discuss safe spots for navigation.

Sunrise and Strolls on Great Barrier Island

During a brief pause in our journey, the crew of Parlay Revival woke up to one of the most beautiful sunrises. The peaceful scene only motivated us to carry on with the required boat repair work more than ever.

The Continuing Journey

We aim to make our boat stronger and seaworthy, reinforcing damaged sections while exploring the beautiful sights New Zealand has to offer.

Tune in for our next episode where we explore further repairs and revelations at Smokehouse Bay. Thanks for being a part of this journey with us!

After having the deck rip off the bow, Colin posts on Facebook to warn other lagoon owners of what happened, and a few trolls come out of the woodwork which leaves Colin frustrated as he goes on a rant...

SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!!
