Waaaaaaahhhhooooooo! Amazing what a fresh lick of bottom paint can do. Avalon is feeling pretty and races to Tahiti to mingle with the other boats with her fresh new look. So strange to be at a busy anchorage again – this is the central hub for yachts in French Polynesia as its remarkably well resourced.
We take advantage of being near chandleries and supplies to finish off a few boat jobs before our guests arrive. Then a bombshell is dropped that they’re arriving 24 hours earlier than previously thought! So the scramble begins.
Meet Ben and Joyce. Well you’ve met Ben before in the episode where we had a drunken passage to Ibiza and rolled into de club straight after anchoring. Joyce is his beautiful girlfriend he’s brought along with him this time so he might be a bit more well behaved on this trip.
One set back though – they’re here for a Kiteboarding holiday with no kites. Shame on Air New Zealand for losing their bags. Naaah well, time to explore inland on this paradise island. We got chatting to the locals and were given instructions on how to find an obscure hike with 9 waterfalls.

Sailing On Finding Avalon
We are Jackson and Xanthe, a pair who met in an aprés-ski bar in the Snowy Mountains of Australia and instantly bonded over a love for adventure, travel and the ocean. In his youth, Jackson competed in international sailing regattas all over the globe. He thought it was a pretty spectacular way to see the world and always had the dream of taking to the seas on a more permanent basis. Xanthe thought it was the best idea she had ever heard and insisted he made his dream a reality and that he made it with her. We bought Finding Avalon in Croatia in the middle of 2018. She's a 2005 Elan Impression 384, and was a charter boat before we bought her. It’s been great fun kitting the boat out to make her fit to sail the open seas. We've now covered 20,000 nautical miles to get her back to Australia!
