Welcome aboard for an exciting YouTube Wednesday adventure on motor vessel lady leiselot as Captain Liz explores the stunning Nature Reserve de Basten, navigates the sands and tides, shares delicious Dutch delights, and sails through enchanting waterways in this entertaining episode. Join her now!
Navigating the Sandbanks of De Basten
In the summer month of June, Captain Liz finds herself anchored in the Nature Reserve De Basten. This enormous reserve is dotted with tidal flats and sandbanks, a perfect backdrop for an intriguing adventure.
A Wind Shift’s Influence on the Anchor
The day before, Captain Liz had experienced the wind blowing from the east. However, now, it has shifted to the west, causing her boat to turn 180 degrees in the water. She notes that her depth is now at 2 meters, down from 4 meters previously.
Careful Anchoring Strategy
In preparing to lift her anchor, Captain Liz considers the effects of wind pushing her boat towards a nearby area with more depth. She plans to raise the anchor very carefully and quickly reposition her vessel in deeper waters before unhooking it completely.
Navigating Up the Doel River
Following a lift, Captain Liz makes her way under Muiden Bridge – a landmark consisting of three bridges (two for trains and one for cars) with an 8-meter clearance. As she sails toward the Doel River, her boat picks up speed, thanks to the tidal current pushing it northward.
Taking a Pause for Dutch Treats
During her journey, Captain Liz reflects on some quintessentially Dutch treats, such as the giant ‘merpijp’ cookies. These sweets and a cup of coffee provide her with a short respite while navigating.
Sailing Through the Swan Colony
Captain Liz also takes the time to observe an enormous flock of swans in the area, appreciating their beauty and realizing how different each bird is. These majestic creatures make for a memorable sight as she sails through.

YOUTUBE WEDNESDAY! This is the 2nd video in this serie. If I succeed, I will publish my cruising video's on Saturday and "All the footage gathered on my SSD" is for this YouTube Wednesday series. So After weeks of rain teh Netherlands (well at least the part where I am) enjoyed a beautiful summer evening. We almost forgot how that felt. Cams aboard Lady Liselot. Check them out on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3P5jFxP (but the silly thing is: these https://amzn.to/3T1AYB2 almost are alike).
The 4 camera's I use to produce my outdoor footage, are so called PTZ - P(an) T(ilt) Z(oom). Zoom, I only use on the rear camera, when I am underway. As you have seen I use the pan and tilt a lot. And in the dark they produce a great (short view) infrared image. I even can navigate in a marina at night on my cams.
Since they all are so called "IP camera's", each have an unique (hardwired) IP address (no DNS) in my network.

This channel follows a format: "Join Henk-Jan, whilst he cruises on motorvessel Lady Liselot through The Netherlands and a little further". That's it. This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. So, I aim to give you a feel for what life's like aboard for me and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply my story and the way I do things. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nederlands.
