Exploring The Baltic, P2. “Anchoring on tidal waters is a serious matter”, Lauwersoog - Juist;s4/e25

I am heading for Gothenburg in Sweden!
Yes, yes, yes, I have told you many times by now: I am heading for Gothenburg in Sweden, but it takes some days before I finally taste the smell of sea water. In this episode the journey becomes more serious when I anchor on tidal waters and pass the border of Germany.

Cams aboard Lady Liselot.
The 4 camera's I use to produce my outdoor footage, are so called PTZ - P(an) T(ilt) Z(oom). Zoom, I only use on the rear camera, when I am underway. As you have seen I use the pan and tilt a lot. And in the dark they produce a great (short view) infrared image. I even can navigate in a marina at night on my cams.
Since they all are so called "IP camera's", each have an unique (hardwired) IP address (no DNS) in my network.

Exploring (a part of) The Baltic, Part 2. “Anchoring on tidal waters is a serious matter”;s4/e25

This channel follows a format: "Join Henk-Jan, whilst he cruises on motorvessel Lady Liselot through The Netherlands and a little further". That's it. This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. So, I aim to give you a feel for what life's like aboard for me and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply my story and the way I do things. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nederlands.

Part Two: Navigating Tidal Waters from Lauwersoog to Laeßig – The Unforgettable Journey Continues

In the previous episode, Captain Hank embarked on a remarkable voyage from Sneek to Delfzijl. This week’s adventure takes us further into the breathtaking waters of the Baltic Sea as he makes his way towards Sweden. Brace yourself for an action-packed journey filled with fascinating encounters, valuable sailing tips, and unforgettable moments.

A Challenging Anchor in Tidal Waters

After departing from Lauwersoog, Captain Hank found himself anchoring near Laeßig Island on the previous night. With a difference of 3 meters in tidal range, he carefully calculated the amount of anchor chain needed to secure his vessel in this treacherous area.

Navigating Sandbanks and Low Water

As Captain Hank navigates through the challenging waters, he encounters a series of sandbanks and low water hazards. Despite his experience and meticulous planning, the unexpected sandbank in the Boyne Canal catches him off guard. With his keen awareness and quick decision-making skills, he successfully maneuvers around the dangerous shallows.

A Night Anchored Near Laeßig Island

While anchored near Laeßig Island, Captain Hank experiences a beautiful and serene night. As the fishermen of the island prepare for their daily catch, they accidentally create a stir by sailing close to Lady Liselot. Despite the disturbance, Captain Hank appreciates their enthusiasm and shares his story with them.

Planning the Journey from Laeßig to Y Island

Having decided not to follow his initially planned route due to favorable conditions, Captain Hank reaches the Isle of Y. Here, he considers dropping anchor and spending the night in this picturesque location. He assesses the depth and water levels before making a decision.

The Final Leg to Y Island

In this episode’s conclusion, Captain Hank successfully navigates the final leg of his journey from Laeßig to Isle Y. With a newfound appreciation for the Baltic Sea and its hidden challenges, he reflects on his experience while enjoying the beauty of his surroundings.
