After 12 months, three countries and two babies we have a MAST!

After an arduous 12 months and traversing across three different countries, Sailing Merewether finally achieves a significant milestone with the arrival of their mast. This event marks a turning point in the couple’s journey as they continue to refurbish and restore their yacht.

The Mast Arrival

Following an excruciating wait of seven months, the mast arrives at last, and Sailing Merewether couldn’t be more ecstatic. The delivery of this critical component symbolizes a new phase for them as they inch closer to returning their yacht to its prime condition.

Structural Repairs

The arrival of the mast is preceded by essential structural repairs performed on Sailing Merewether’s boat. A bulkhead, crucial to their yacht’s stability and safety, undergoes a significant repair. The meticulous work of skilled fibreglass craftsmen leaves no stone unturned as they restore their vessel to its former glory.

Chain Plate Replacement

The installation of the mast also necessitates a replacement for the chain plates. These plates had sustained severe damage due to a previous accident involving their yacht’s mast. As part of their comprehensive restoration efforts, Sailing Merewether seeks the services of an experienced stainless steel welder to replace these vital components.

Mast Installation Challenges

However, not all goes smoothly for Sailing Merewether during their mast installation process. They encounter a particularly daunting task in joining the two halves of their new mast, requiring an extraordinary effort from both them and the rigging professionals. Despite facing difficulties, they remain undeterred and continue with their meticulous work on other crucial components like the running rigging and standing rigging.

Community Support

Throughout this arduous journey, Sailing Merewether receives much-needed support from fellow sailors and friends. Their dedication to their cause is evident in every step of the process, showcasing the strength that lies within a supportive community.

The Road Ahead

As Sailing Merewether inches closer to completing this crucial phase in their sailing adventure, they take time out for personal milestones, too – like taking their newborn twins for a maiden sail in the new twin pram. This heartfelt moment brings immense joy to everyone involved as they witness life’s simple yet profound pleasures alongside their sailing odyssey.

Seven long months of waiting for our mast and it has finally arrived! Yes! to say we are excited is a. huge understatement. Finally we can see our semi destroyed sailboat looking more and more like the ocean traveling explorer she should. The mast has taken 2 months to move from Sweden where it was made to Malaysia. The company that made the mast is called Selden who are mass producer of masts around Europe and a very trusted name in the sailing world.
