In this riveting episode of Sailing Isara, Amber and Peter continue their extensive boat preparation to get ready for sailing around the bay with friends visiting from Wales. A busy schedule awaits them as they not only install a new main sail but also address other dirty tricks on their checklist.
Amber highlights that even though Precision Sales promised to mark the lines for the Dutchman, they did not follow through, leaving Peter frustrated. Nevertheless, the beautiful and fitting new main sail was installed flawlessly despite this setback.
In the process of getting ready for their guests, Peter installs a stack pack to hold and cradle the mainsail properly. However, one of the most challenging moments was losting one of the lines at the second spreader during this process, requiring another nerve-wracking climb up the mast in the windy conditions.
In parallel, to make sure the boat is smelling its best for their visitors’ arrival, Peter investigates and starts replacing the old hoses in the leaking holding tank. Despite encountering some snags with a drilling bit that made it four times slower than expected, Peter completes the installation and successfully resolves the issue.
A highlight in this episode is Peter’s climb up the mast. Known for his fear of heights, Peter not only climbs the mast four times to install Jack lines, drill holes, and secure the stack pack but also reflects on how he uses fear as leverage. Using safety measures such as hoisting himself with a 4:1 tackle and practicing for a possible solo climb enhances his comfort level throughout this daunting task.
This episode showcases Amber and Peter’s determination to complete their extensive boat preparation list despite facing challenges. Don’t miss the entertaining, insightful process of overcoming fear while securing lines for a stack pack, dealing with a leaking holding tank, and much more. Tune in now!
We're back! Working harder than ever on all this stuff.
In this episode, I replace holding tank hoses with all new hoses, drop my phone in the bilge full of poo, and then climb the mast to install the jacklines for a new stack pack.
