Ep 12 Journey Begins & Troubles Ahoy!
We FINALLY start the journey! We cast off the lines and start down the Columbia River headed to Astoria for final provisioning. We encounter our first *boat problems* and troubles.
Our alternator was upgraded to an Electro-Max high output with serpentine belt, however the regulator was kept the same – an old Cruising Equipment Alpha. Ultimately we found out that there was a mechanism on that regulator that kept the voltage going too high (unless we drew 10 amps of power somewhere).
We ended this leg of the trip in Astoria, Oregon. I found a backup alternator (along with a field wire disconnect solution), and then figured out the regulator, thus giving me and the crew the confidence to continue.
I wish I could say that this was the last of the troubles!
