This week we venture off the beaten path and gunkhole our way around the many mangrove cays of the beautiful Bocas del Toro archipelago. Using a combination of Eric Bauhaus’ guide to the region and our incomplete electronic charts, we plot our way back to some beautiful but uncharted anchorages. Then, as heavy winds are forecast we make a run for one of Bocas’ most sheltered anchorages, Big Bight. With her anchor well set, Gargoyle is well prepared the most massive rainstorm she’s seen as we receive enough overnight to turn tender into bathtub.
