Cruising Season in the Bahamas Comes to a Close with Sailing Doodles
As the cruising season in the Bahamas begins to wind down, Sailing Doodles finds themselves packing up and preparing for the journey west towards Florida. However, before they depart, they make sure to enjoy a little beach time and explore some anchorages. Anchored in Fox Town The team initially anchors just outside of Fox Town in the Abos, planning to stay a couple more nights before heading out. During their time there, they pull the dinghy on deck and secure it for safety. However, with the weather becoming warmer and windier, and knowing that these conditions are unusual for this season, they ultimately decide to pack up. Meeting Up With Friends at Great Sale Cay On their way, Sailing Doodles meets up with friends in Hop Toown. They spend time together before planning to reunite at Great Sale Key, approximately 30 miles away into the bay. From there, they intend to head to West End the following day. The Journey to Great Sale With a late afternoon start, they reach Great Sale after a 45-minute sail. While it’s not quite where they thought they would be, the team still enjoys the journey and the calm anchorage. Exploring Old Bahama Bay at West End After one night in Great Sale, they set off for West End, arriving at the Old Bahama Bay Marina. This location is a popular destination for “Weekend Warriors” from Florida who come by small boats to rent hotel rooms and enjoy the pool, beach bar, and restaurant. Enjoying West End’s Amenities Although the marina is a bit of a long drive from anything else, Sailing Doodles takes advantage of the amenities, having lunch at the pool bar and dinner at the on-site restaurant. They also take in a SpaceX starlink launch nearby. The Final Days in Paradise Before departing, they spend some relaxing days swimming and enjoying the beach at West End. These last few days mark their final time exploring the Bahamas until possibly November, with a brief stop in Florida first. A Special Thanks to Our Patrons and Channel Members!
