My New Catamaran’s First Sail Shocked Me
After months of waiting, my new catamaran finally leaves the dock for her first sail and sea trial!
We start the day getting off the dock and heading out for the yacht’s first real test on the water. Before putting her fully through her paces, we sail over to the lee of an island to test the anchor, lower the Highfield dinghy, and take it for a quick run.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Sailing Doodles sea trial without a little chaos — Cougar decides to jump off the dinghy into the water, and I have to turn around to rescue him.
Then it’s time for the big moment: we pull up the anchor, roll out the sails, and see how this new production catamaran actually performs. I was honestly really happy with the results. We managed 6.8 knots of boat speed in 11.7 knots of wind, which is about half wind speed — pretty impressive for a production cruising catamaran.
This was the first real sail on my new yacht, and I think a lot of people will be surprised by how well she performs.
