My New Boat Was Damaged… 12 Days Before Launch!

My new Island Spirit 525 electric catamaran is finally getting close to leaving the factory! In this episode, I head back to the Island Spirit factory in Thailand to check on the progress of my boat build, and it looks like we are only about 12 days away from getting her out of the factory.

But of course, boat projects always come with surprises. During transport, a major component of my boat was damaged — a big hole was punched in the boom. Luckily, it is not the end of the world. The factory had a spare boom in stock, so we are swapping it out and keeping the build moving forward.

I give you a behind-the-scenes look at the factory, the current status of the boat, and what still needs to happen before we finally launch her.

My new boat is almost here… but not without a little drama first.

She Took My Boat to Malaysia Without Me!

This was not the plan. A new crew member arrived in Thailand, and normally that would mean we’re getting ready to go sailing on the new yacht. But because of my recent illness and more hospital visits, I had to stay behind in Pattaya. So instead of me ...

We Feared the Worst… Emergency Hospital Visit in Thailand

After finishing the shakedown cruise on my new yacht, we pulled back into the marina thinking the hard part was behind us. But shortly after, I started having serious GI problems and ended up making an emergency trip to the ER in Thailand. What followed w...

This Could Change My Cruising Plans Forever

It’s the final day of the shakedown cruise on my new yacht, and we sail back toward Ocean Marina after a few incredible days out on the water. The boat has been amazing, the dogs have loved it, and this was supposed to be the simple final leg back to the...

This Is Why I Bought This Yacht

Day three of our shakedown cruise on my new yacht started anchored off Koh Larn, but we decided to sail about 15 miles west to the uninhabited island of Koh Phai. This turned out to be exactly the kind of place I dreamed about when buying this boat — wh...

My New Yacht Has An Electric Gremlin

Our second day cruising around the Thai islands on my new sailing catamaran started at anchor on the north end of Koh Larn. By 8 a.m., the peaceful anchorage was already filling up with tour boats and jet skis, and it was getting pretty uncomfortable. But...

She is finally mine!: Maverick’s first sail

After years of waiting, delays, setbacks, and one very long journey to get here, my new yacht is finally mine! I signed the paperwork the day before, and now it is time to take her out for our first real sail and shakedown cruise. I was definitely a littl...
