Sailing Misadventures: Broken Ribs, Stitches, and a Full Moon Party Gone Wrong
Join us as we recount our thrilling yet unfortunate sailing adventure in the picturesque Abaco Islands of the Bahamas. Our trip took an unexpected turn when our crew member, Chelsea, had to leave prematurely due to a rather wild full moon party.
In our previous video, we successfully returned to H Town on Elbow Key in the Abaco Island chain. There, we encountered our friend Bob on his impressive 97t Horizon, who was also making his way into the same marina as us. After a successful docking courtesy of Carrie and her crew, we spent a day enjoying the Sunday fun day vibes without any filming. Following this laid-back day, we ventured to H Town’s local Hopetown Inn to await Amanda’s arrival.
Impromptu Tender Ride
In order to make our way over to the Hopetown dock where Amanda was staying at the Abaco Beach Resort Marina, we utilized Bob’s spacious Highfield 520 tender powered by a 90 horsepower engine. This choice provided a much more comfortable ride than attempting to use our own boat for the journey. After loading up, we embarked on the 5-mile trek across the bay to Great Abaco. Upon arrival at the public dock rather than using the marina’s facilities that charged $150 merely to pick Amanda up, we welcomed her with open arms and excitement.
Friendship Blossoms Over Moonlit Sails
The immediate bonding between Amanda, Chelsea, and myself created an atmosphere filled with laughter and fun as we celebrated Amanda’s return. Our shared experience under the full moonlight left us cherishing the memories made during that slow, yet delightful journey aboard Bob’s boat.
Matching Outfits and Coastal Nights
Dressed in our matching outfits, we headed to Bad Daddy’s for happy hour. The connection between us all grew stronger with each shared moment. Arriving at the Hopetown dock later that night, we enjoyed cocktails as we discussed how perfect it was that we managed to find coordinating clothing ā fate had truly led us to becoming matcha twins.
The Arrival at Firefly
A brief ride over to the renowned Firefly restaurant awaited us. Renowned as one of the top dining destinations on the island, we relished in delicious food and delightful conversation while enjoying the stunning sunset from our front-row seats. This coastal dinner setting proved the perfect preparation for our eagerly anticipated full moon beach party.
The Full Moon Party
Enthralled by the prospect of participating in a Bahamian full moon party on the beach, we embarked upon our return journey to that lively setting. Upon arrival, numerous golf carts dotted the scene, foreshadowing an entertaining evening ahead.
A Night to Remember… But Not For Chelsea
The full moon party, intended as our highlight of the evening, took a tragic turn when an accident involving a golf cart left our friend Chelsea with broken ribs and stitches. With each injury said to have been inflicted by a crash that seemed to encapsulate the spirit of wild island revelry, it became clear we could no longer enjoy the festivities while she suffered.
The Medical Crisis
The following morning saw Chelsea visiting H Town’s medical clinic where more stitches were added to her arm, a grim reminder of the events that transpired under the moonlit sky. Diagnosed with severely bruised collarbone and ribs, along with extensive injuries, it was determined she would require an x-ray and subsequent visit to an orthopedic surgeon in the Bahamas.
Return Journey Home
Necessitated by her injury, Chelsea’s return home a few days earlier than planned was the next order of business. She departed as we prepared to head over to Florida in search of further healing and relief from the pain caused by her injuries.
Thankful for the Memories
The aftermath left us reflecting on the moments shared prior to that fateful night ā cherished memories of laughter and adventure against a backdrop of stunning Caribbean sunsets. Despite Chelsea’s early departure, we continued making videos together via Instagram. To this day, her presence is very much a part of our Sailing Doodles family.
A Final Thought
As we embark on future adventures, we’ll carry the spirit of friendship and camaraderie forged during our time together. And should our paths cross again, it would be a delight to recreate those unforgettable memories with you all. Stay tuned for more stories, laughs, and adventures aboard the good ship Sailing Doodles.
Chelsea was in a golf cart accident, broke a few ribs and got a deep gash that had to get stitches. So we had to send her home early to recover!
