The rig issues??? / Sailing Aquarius Ep. 196

The Rig Issues? / Sailing Aquarius Ep. 196

After exploring some incredible snorkeling spots in Guadeloupe and visiting the beautiful Les Saints Islands, Sailing Aquarius sets their sights on Martinique. But before they head out, a potentially more concerning issue emerges. The Need for a Rig Check As Ziv and Eliza continue their Caribbean journey, they quickly realize that one of their shrouds seems loose. Concerned about the potential safety issue and the integrity of their rigging system, Ziv makes a decision to sail directly to Martinique instead of visiting Dominica, with a main priority: getting their rig checked by experts. The Arrival in St. Pierre Arriving in Martinique and the popular yachting destination of Saint-Pierre, Aquarius anchors for a few days as they await their scheduled rig inspection. This is not an issue to be taken lightly; the couple has come far from Les Saints Islands (and even farther from home) on their incredible sailing adventure around the world. Provisioning and Preparations With some time to kill before they move forward with the rig inspection, Ziv and Eliza do what all smart sailors do when it comes to being prepared for their journey ahead – they stock up on food and supplies at a convenient local grocery store accessible by dinghy. Caribbean Adventures Continue Finally, the day comes when Sailing Aquarius gets their much-needed rig inspection. The local Caribe Marine crew assesses and tightens the shrouds, with particular focus on the Genoa forestay. Eliza shares that the expert’s opinion is that it could have been tightened more – but overall, they seem satisfied. The Sailing Aquarius Adventure Continues Following the rig check and tune up, the adventure continues as Ziv and Eliza decide to move around the corner to a beautiful St. Anne’s anchorage for the weekend. This stop in paradise offers stunning views and the perfect backdrop to recount their journey thus far. Next Stop – Rodney Bay, St Lucia With their rig in tip-top shape, it’s time for Sailing Aquarius to move on to one of their favorite places: Rodney Bay, St. Lucia. Don’t miss out on the next episode as they share insights into living aboard a boat full-time and traveling around the world – all while balancing work and play.

As we sail south to get out of the hurricane zone ASAP we move from Guadeloupe, Caribbean towards Martinique. It all went fairly well despite the unusual wind direction until we noticed that one of our main mast shrouds seemed quite loose. We just got our new rigging as we remasted Aquarius, but now we have sailed for nearly 1000 nautical miles so maybe it's time to tune the rig or something is going wrong? Not again!!!
