Island hopping in Caribbean: St Martin & St. Barths / Sailing Aquarius Ep. 194

Exploring St Martin and St Barts

Our recent journey took us to the Caribbean paradise of St. Martin and St. Barts, two stunningly beautiful islands filled with endless opportunities for exploration, relaxation, and adventure. After exploring the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, we found ourselves eager to continue our island-hopping adventure further south.

Embarking from Necker Island, owned by billionaire Richard Branson, we encountered smooth sailing conditions that allowed us to make the crossing in comfort and style. Arriving at St Martin around 4 a.m., we anchored at Marot Anchorage before deciding to move to Marina Port Louise, where Aquarius could safely rest.

Discovering the Beauty of St Martin

With stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters, St. Martin did not disappoint. Our first stop was Orient Beach, famous for its low-flying planes that landing at the nearby airstrip. This beach offers picturesque views, vibrant water colors, and a lively atmosphere.

Hiking Fort Louis and Savoring Local Cuisine

To further explore St Martin, we took a hike to the top of Fort Louis, enjoying panoramic views of the island. We capped off our day with a delicious dinner at the prestigious St Maarten Yacht Club.

Discovering Pristine Beaches

The following day, we discovered another breathtaking beach in St Martin that showcased the island’s natural beauty. We even encountered a curious turtle swimming near our boat.

Navigating French Island Cultures and Cuisine

Our brief visit to St Barts took us to its bustling capital, Gustavia, known for its luxury stores that cater mostly to tourists. We also struggled with the unique work schedules prevalent on many French islands.

A Tropical Departure and Southward Bound

After experiencing the delights of St Barts, we returned to the calm Anchorage before departing south. Our friends aboard Amlet joined us for this leg of our journey as we ventured forth towards new adventures.

This exciting episode highlights the wonders of island-hopping in the Caribbean with Sailing Aquarius. With breathtaking scenery, unique cultures and cuisines, St Martin and St Barts offered us an unforgettable experience. We continue our journey south and this time we leave British Virgin Islands - Virgin Gorda and take off to St. Martin - about 80 nm. Sailing this angle in Caribbean is pretty much impossible, but at least we lucky to pick day with no wind and this makes a huge difference. We arrive to St. Martin and explore its beautiful beaches and castle. St. Baths is next on our itenery - more beautiful beaches and so much more.

Ps. E still haven’t found solution for our broken microphone - so please forgive us…
