After 8 years of sailing around the world, we made landfall in the U.S. and headed to Charleston, South Carolina—with excitement and concern.
Cruising Charleston wasn’t easy: $1000 for a 4-day marina stay, sketchy anchorages, and a long dinghy ride through fast boat traffic. Still, with a good friend visiting, we set out to explore this iconic Southern city.
We joined a carriage tour through historic downtown, wandered Rainbow Row, and took a nature-filled day at Magnolia plantation with its Lego safari, riverboat ride, and even a charming train. We moved anchorages for better shelter and ended up next to the USS Yorktown under the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge—a whole new view of Charleston.
As we count down our last days aboard Aquarius, the emotions run high. This might be goodbye to the boat… but not to the adventure.
