How To Hoist & Stow A Nesting Dinghy On Deck Before Passage | Sailboat Story 114

One way we prepare for a serious crossing is by taking apart our nesting dinghy, lifting the 2 halves aboard the boat, and secure it to the forward deck.

This is a much safer way to sail when there is a possibility of encountering large seas, high winds, or conditions that would threaten to flip or sink the dinghy if we towed it behind the boat.

Another benefit is that we sail a bit faster when the dinghy is on the deck instead of being towed. We go anywhere from 1/2 to a full knot faster with the dinghy broken down and stored on the deck.

The process of lifting and securing our dinghy to the deck takes about an hour from start to finish – and also the same amount of time to reassemble and launch it again when we arrive at our new destination.

In this video, we’ll show you how we disassemble, lift, and secure our nesting dinghy on the deck of our boat.

Thanks for watching!!
